FRANKFURT, Germany — The Red Sea, a vital trade artery and energy shipment route for Europe, is currently facing disruptions due to ongoing conflicts in the region. Missiles and drones launched by Yemen’s Houthi rebels, in support of Hamas’ war with Israel, have targeted ships passing through the Red Sea. This has led to concerns about the future of energy supplies for the 27-country European Union, which heavily relies on imported natural gas for various purposes such as powering factories, generating electricity, and heating homes.
The attacks have already resulted in the cancellation of several shipments of liquefied natural gas (LNG) to Italy, a major terminal for Europe. This has caused anxiety, especially as the continent is still recovering from an energy crisis caused by Russia’s
