Egypt has proposed a cease-fire to end the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas.
The proposal, developed in collaboration with the Gulf nation of Qatar, suggests a phased release of hostages and the establishment of a Palestinian government of experts to administer the Gaza Strip and occupied West Bank. This proposal has been presented to Israel, Hamas, the United States, and European governments, but is still in its preliminary stages. It does not meet Israel’s goal of completely crushing Hamas and does not allow for extended military control over Gaza after the war.
